I Taught Myself How To Use a 75 Year Old Camera and Here Are the Results

I had been in a rut for the past several months, struggling to get my creative juices flowing. But I recently completed a quick project using a camera manufactured nearly 80 years ago!

Last year I thrifted a vintage Kodak Brownie Target Six-20 thinking that I would probably never figure out how to use it but thought it would be cool to have. But after sitting with it, I wanted to push myself to figure out how to use a camera outside of my comfort zone. I went ahead and purchased some 620 black and white film from bhphotovideo.com and researched how to operate and spool the film in a Kodak Brownie Target Six-20.

When taking these pictures of my boyfriend, I wasn’t sure how they’d turn out or if they would even turn out at all. After all, the view finder was quite rusted and the camera was original manufactured sometime between 1946 and 1952.

When I got the 8 pictures that the Kodak Brownie Target Six-20 allows back from thedarkroom.com I was pleasantly surprised with how they turned out! Capturing moments in time with cameras from generations past hits different for me. See the results below:

I love how these turned out after my first time using this camera. I am so excited to take more pictures with it and learn how to use my other vintage cameras!

Check out below how some of the images I took with my vintage Kodak Brownie compare to my iPhone:
