A Summer Wedding on 35mm Film

Around 7am during the first July morning of 2022 I was getting ready to pick up two of my favorite people for a 20 minute drive to witness them become a married couple in a beautiful private ceremony.

In the weeks leading up to the wedding, my boyfriend and I met with the engaged couple, Maddy & Ben, to discuss what they wanted for wedding photos. My boyfriend specializes in digital photography, while I do film photography. In the digital realm, Maddy & Ben wanted something traditional. When it comes to film, it can be slightly overwhelming trying to decide what type of film you want your pictures to be shot on. I presented them with a powerpoint including a list of options for them to consider. After they reviewed some options, they settled on Kodak-Tri-X-400 What appealed to them about this film type is the black and white color of the film, the capability of pushing the film depending on the weather, and the beautiful contrast that the film can have.

I opted to not push the film at all and I was very happy with this decision because I think the contrast turned out perfect. Check out the results below.

July 1, 2022 will be a day I remember for the rest of my life. Not only was this day the first time I shot a wedding, but also my first time attending a private wedding ceremony. The bride, Maddy, is my best friend and she looked absolutely beautiful. It was a perfect morning. I feel so honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of their day.

A morning wedding isn’t complete without a breakfast of course. Before they went off on their honeymoon, we got to enjoy delicious food and mimosas with Maddy and Ben as a married couple for the first time.

If you are planning a wedding please consider 35mm film for your wedding photography. It will give your special day a timeless feel to look back on for the rest of your life.
